The Nervous System

  • The nervous system is like the body’s “control center” that helps us think, move, and feel.
  • It sends messages between the brain and different parts of the body.
  • Brain: The main control center of the body that helps us think, learn, and remember.
  • Spinal Cord: A thick bundle of nerves that runs down the back, connecting the brain to the rest of the body.
  • Nerves: Thin, thread-like structures that carry messages between the brain, spinal cord, and the body.
  • The brain sends and receives signals through the spinal cord and nerves.
  • These signals travel very quickly, helping us react to things around us, like touching something hot.
  • The nervous system helps us use our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
  • These senses send information to the brain, which tells us how to respond.
  • It helps us learn, remember, and make decisions.
  • It controls our movements, like walking, talking, and writing.
  • It protects us by reacting quickly to danger (like pulling our hand away from something hot).
  • The brain has billions of nerve cells called neurons that communicate with each other.
  • Get enough sleep so the brain can rest.
  • Eat healthy foods, especially fruits, vegetables, and foods rich in omega-3 (like fish).
  • Wear a helmet to protect your brain when biking or playing sports.
