The Circulatory System

  • The circulatory system is like a transportation system in our body. It moves blood, oxygen, and nutrients to every part of our body.
  • Heart: The heart is a strong muscle that pumps blood throughout the body.
  • Blood Vessels: These are like tiny tubes that carry blood. There are three main types:
  • Arteries: Carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart.
  • Veins: Bring blood back to the heart.
  • Capillaries: Very tiny vessels where the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste happens.
  • The heart has four chambers: two on the top (called atria) and two on the bottom (called ventricles).
  • It pumps blood to the lungs to get oxygen, then sends this oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body.
  • Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the cells and removes waste products like carbon dioxide.
  • It also helps fight infections and keeps us healthy.
  • It provides the body with the oxygen and nutrients needed to survive.
  • It helps remove waste products from the body.
  • The heart beats about 60-100 times per minute.
  • An average adult has about 5 liters of blood in their body.
  • Blood travels through the entire circulatory system in about one minute!
  • Eat healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Exercise regularly to keep the heart strong.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid too much junk food and sugary drinks.
