Living Things Breathe

All living things need oxygen to live, and they get it by breathing.

Humans breathe in air through their nose or mouth, which goes into the lungs. The lungs take in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.

Animals like dogs, cats, and birds also breathe to get oxygen. Some animals breathe through their noses, while others, like fish, breathe through gills.

Plants do not breathe like animals, but they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen through tiny holes in their leaves called stomata.

When we breathe in, we take in oxygen, which is needed for our bodies to make energy. When we breathe out, we release carbon dioxide, a waste product.

Oxygen from the air helps animals and plants grow and stay healthy.

Different living things have different ways of breathing. For example, fish use gills to breathe underwater, while most land animals have lungs.

Breathing is a continuous process. We need to breathe in oxygen all the time to stay alive.
