Living Things Need Food

All living things, including animals, plants, and humans, need food to survive and grow. Food provides energy for daily activities and helps in the repair of body cells.

  • Plants make their own food using sunlight, water, and air through a process called photosynthesis.
  • Animals eat plants or other animals to get food.
  • Humans eat a variety of foods, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and meat.

Food gives energy to living things. This energy is used for movement, growth, and other activities.

Food helps living things grow and heal. For example, a plant uses food to grow taller, and humans use food to build strong muscles and repair damaged cells.

  • Plants: They need sunlight, water, and minerals from the soil to make food.
  • Herbivores: Animals that eat only plants (e.g., cows, rabbits).
  • Carnivores: Animals that eat other animals (e.g., lions, wolves).
  • Omnivores: Animals that eat both plants and animals (e.g., humans, bears).

Humans need a balanced diet, which includes different types of food, to stay healthy and strong. This includes fruits, vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates.

In nature, food forms a chain. Plants provide food for herbivores, and herbivores are eaten by carnivores. This is called a food chain.

Water is also important for all living things. It helps transport food within the body and keeps the body functioning properly.
