Elapsed time

  • Elapsed time is the amount of time that passes from the start to the end of an event.
  • Know how to read a clock:
    🕒 Hour hand (short hand)
    🕔 Minute hand (long hand)
  • 1 hour = 60 minutes
  • 30 minutes = half an hour
  • 15 minutes = quarter of an hour
  • Use a start time and end time to figure out how much time has passed.
    Example: From 2:00 to 3:00 = 1 hour
  • Use a number line or timeline
  • Count by hours, then by minutes
  • Use clock drawings or actual clocks
  • If a movie starts at 4:00 and ends at 5:30, how much time passed?
    ➤ 1 hour and 30 minutes
  • Elapsed time helps us understand things like:
    ⏰ How long a class lasts
    🍽️ Cooking time
    🎮 Play time
  • Start time: when something begins
  • End time: when it ends
  • Elapsed time: how much time passed between start and end

  • Two o’clock means 2:00.
  • Count by hours to find 4 hours after 2:00. This is 6:00.
  • It will be 6:00.
