Form regular plurals with -s, -es and -ies

Key Notes:-

Most nouns form their plural by adding -s at the end.

Examples:

  • cat → cats 🐱
  • book → books 📚
  • pen → pens ✏️

Nouns ending in s, x, z, ch, sh need -es to form plural.

Examples:

  • bus → buses 🚌
  • box → boxes 📦
  • watch → watches ⌚
  • brush → brushes 🖌️

Nouns ending in a consonant + y, change y → ies to form plural.

Examples:

  • baby → babies 👶
  • party → parties 🎉
  • city → cities 🌆
  • Note: If a noun ends in vowel + y, just add -s.
  • key → keys 🔑
  • toy → toys 🧸
  • 🐾 Most nouns → add -s
  • 🐾 Ends in s, x, z, ch, sh → add -es
  • 🐾 Ends in consonant + y → change y → ies
  • 🐾 Ends in vowel + y → just -s
  • Try saying the word out loud: if it sounds like it needs an extra syllable → probably -es.
