Divide by 10
Key Notes :
Understanding Division
- Division is splitting a number into equal parts.
- When dividing by 10, we find how many groups of 10 are in a number.
Basic Rule of Dividing by 10
- When a number is divided by 10, the digits shift one place to the right.
- Example: 50 ÷ 10 = 5, 120 ÷ 10 = 12.
Using Place Value
- The last digit (ones place) moves to the right, and the number becomes 10 times smaller.
- Example: 430 ÷ 10 = 43 (the zero is removed).
Dividing Whole Numbers by 10
- Any whole number ending in zero will become a smaller whole number.
- Example: 90 ÷ 10 = 9.
Dividing Numbers Without Zero
- Numbers not ending in zero will have a decimal answer.
- Example: 7 ÷ 10 = 0.7.
Shortcut Trick
- Remove the last zero when dividing a number by 10 (if present).
- Example: 250 ÷ 10 = 25.
Real-Life Examples
- Sharing 100 candies among 10 friends: Each gets 10 candies (100 ÷ 10 = 10).
- Distributing 50 pencils among 10 students: Each student gets 5 pencils (50 ÷ 10 = 5).
