  • A preposition is a word that links a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence.
  • It shows the relationship — like place, time, or direction.

👉 Example:

  • The book is on the table.
  • The cat is under the chair.
  • She goes to school.

a) Prepositions of Place (Where?)

  • Tell where something is.
  • Examples: in, on, under, behind, next to, between, above, below
    • The dog is behind the sofa.
    • The ball is between the shoes.

b) Prepositions of Time (When?)

  • Show when something happens.
  • Examples: at, on, in
    • I play football on Sunday.
    • We eat dinner at 7 PM.
    • They go swimming in summer.

c) Prepositions of Direction/Movement (Where to?)

  • Show where something is going.
  • Examples: to, into, onto, out of, from
    • She walked to the park.
    • The bird flew into the tree.

  • Wrong: The cat is in the table.
  • Correct: The cat is on the table.
  • Wrong: She goes in school.
  • Correct: She goes to school.
