Identify the adjective that describes the noun

An adjective is a word that describes a noun.

It tells us what kind, which one, or how many.

Example:

  • 🐢 The fluffy dog β†’ “fluffy” tells us what kind of dog.
  • 🍎 I ate a red apple β†’ “red” tells us the color of the apple.

Describing Words – tells what kind

Example: big, small, happy, sad

  • 🌸 The beautiful flower
  • 🏰 The huge castle

Number Words – tells how many

Example: one, two, several, many

  • 🍌 I have three bananas
  • 🐦 There are five birds

Possessive Words – tells whose

Example: my, her, their, our

  • 🐱 This is my cat
  • πŸŽ’ He found her bag

Look for the word that tells more about the noun.

Ask yourself:

  • What kind? πŸ€”
  • Which one? 🧐
  • How many? πŸ“

Example:

🌞 The bright sun is shining.

  • Noun: sun
  • Adjective: bright

🐴 She rode a fast horse.

  • Noun: horse
  • Adjective: fast

Adjectives usually come before the noun.

  • βœ… The tall boy
  • ❌ The boy tall

But sometimes they come after a verb like β€œis”:

  • 🐢 The dog is happy.
