Read the text about archery.
Archery is the sport of using a bow and arrow to hit a target. Archery was first used for hunting or in war. But archers have also held contests to see who has the best aim. Even today, many people practise archery and enter contests.
To hit a target, an archer begins by resting an arrow against the bow. Next the archer fits the back of the arrow to the bowstring. The archer pulls the string back, aims and lets go. The string flings the arrow towards the target.
Most modern archery targets are round and have different coloured rings on the target. Hitting the ring in the centre of the target is hard, so this scores the most points. But hitting the rings further out from the centre is easier. Therefore, those rings are worth fewer points. So, the more accurate an archer’s aim is, the more points the archer earns.
