Identify articles

  • Articles are words used to define a noun as specific or unspecific.
  • There are two types of articles: definite and indefinite.

  • Indefinite Articles: “A” and “An”
    • Used when talking about general things.
    • “A” is used before words that begin with a consonant sound.
    • Example: A dog, A banana
    • “An” is used before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
    • Example: An apple, An egg
  • Definite Article: “The”
    • Used when talking about specific things.
    • Example: The sun (there is only one sun), The book on the shelf (a specific book)

  • Use “a” or “an” when mentioning something for the first time or when it is not specific.
    • Example: “I saw a bird.”
  • Use “the” when referring to something that is already known or has been mentioned before.
    • Example: “I saw the bird again.”

  • Example Sentences:
    1. The dog is barking.
    2. I want a cookie.
    3. She is reading an interesting book.
    4. The sun is shining brightly.
