📝 Identify Articles

Articles are special words that come before nouns to tell us which one or how many.
There are three articles in English:

  • a 🟢
  • an 🔵
  • the 🟡

Indefinite Articlesa and an

  • Use a 🟢 before words that begin with a consonant sound.
    • Example: a 🟢 cat 🐱, a 🟢 book 📖
  • Use an 🔵 before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
    • Example: an 🔵 apple 🍎, an 🔵 elephant 🐘

Definite Articlethe 🟡

  • Use the 🟡 when we talk about a specific person, place, or thing.
    • Example: the 🟡 sun 🌞, the 🟡 school 🏫

  • A 🟢 → consonant sound → a dog 🐶
