Sheet Music
In music class, the teacher passed
A song out on a sheet.
‘You know the notes, the way they float,
And how to sing the beat.’
Although I heard her every word
About how to make each sound,
To read small signs along black lines
Was not much fun, I found.
Instead, I tossed the sheet aside
And roared my own notes so high.
I thought I’d hear the sound of cheers.
But I heard silence, then a sigh.
