Form and use the regular past tense
Key Notes:
1. What is the Past Tense?
- The past tense is used to talk about actions that have already happened.
- It helps us describe things that took place before the present time.
2. Regular Past Tense Verbs
- Regular past tense verbs are formed by adding -ed to the base form of the verb.

- Rule: Add -ed to the end of the verb.
- Examples:
- Walk → Walked
- Talk → Talked
- Play → Played
4. Spelling Changes
- Some verbs have special spelling rules when forming the past tense:
- Verbs ending in “e”: Just add -d.
- Example: Like → Liked
- One-syllable verbs ending in a consonant, vowel, consonant: Double the last consonant before adding -ed.
- Example: Sit → Sat → Sitted (incorrect) but Sat (correct)
- Verbs ending in “y”: Change “y” to “i” and add -ed.
- Example: Cry → Cried
