Identify action verbs

Key Notes:-

  • Action verbs are words that show what someone or something is doing. They describe actions.

  • Action verbs make sentences exciting and help us understand what is happening.

  • Ask the Question: What is happening?
    • Example: In the sentence “The dog barks,” ask, “What is the dog doing?” The answer is “barks,” which is the action verb.

  • Physical Action Verbs: Actions we can see, like running or jumping.
    • Example: “She jumps high.”

  • Mental Action Verbs: Actions that involve thinking or feeling.
    • Example: “He thinks about the problem.”

  • State of Being Verbs: Words that describe a state or condition.
    • Example: “The cat is happy.” (Here, “is” shows a state of being, not an action.)

  • Run, jump, swim, eat, sing, dance, write, play.

  • Look for action verbs in sentences you read.
  • Try to find the action verb by asking “What is happening?”
