What Are Personal Pronouns?
- Personal pronouns are words that take the place of a noun in a sentence. They are used to refer to people, animals, or things without using their names.
- Personal pronouns can be either subject pronouns (used as the subject of a sentence) or object pronouns (used as the object of a sentence).
Types of Personal Pronouns:
- Subject Pronouns (used to do the action):
- I, you, he, she, it, we, they
- Examples:
- “I am going to school.”
- “She is reading a book.”
- Object Pronouns (receive the action):
- me, you, him, her, it, us, them
- Examples:
- “The teacher called me.”
- “We gave the gift to her.”
Examples in Sentences:
- Subject Pronoun Example:
- “They are playing soccer.”
- In this sentence, they is the subject (who is playing).
- Object Pronoun Example:
- “Mom gave me a cookie.”
- In this sentence, me is the object (who receives the cookie).
Key Rules:
- Use subject pronouns when the pronoun is doing the action.
- Example: “He likes ice cream.”
- Use object pronouns when the pronoun is receiving the action.
- Example: “The teacher gave her a book.”
