Key Notes:-

  • Singular Nouns: Refer to one person, place, thing, or idea.
    • Example: cat, book, house
  • Plural Nouns: Refer to more than one person, place, thing, or idea. Usually formed by adding -s or -es to the singular noun.
    • Example: cats, books, houses

  • Singular Possessive Nouns: Show ownership or relationship by adding an apostrophe and -s (‘s) to a singular noun.
    • Example:
      • The cat’s toy (The toy belonging to one cat)
      • Sarah’s book (The book belonging to Sarah)

  • Plural Possessive Nouns: Show ownership or relationship by adding an apostrophe after the -s to a plural noun that already ends in -s, or by adding an apostrophe and -s to plural nouns that do not end in -s.
    • Example:
      • The cats’ toys (The toys belonging to multiple cats)
      • The children’s toys (The toys belonging to multiple children)

  • For Singular Nouns: Add ‘s.
    • Example: The dog’s bone (bone belonging to one dog)
  • For Plural Nouns Ending in -s: Add only an apostrophe.
    • Example: The teachers’ lounge (lounge for multiple teachers)
  • For Plural Nouns Not Ending in -s: Add ‘s.
    • Example: The women’s meeting (meeting for multiple women)
