- Definition: Plurals are used to show that there is more than one person, animal, thing, or place.
- Forming Plurals: Most plural nouns are made by adding -s to the end of the singular form.
Regular Plurals with -s
- Basic Rule: Add -s to the end of most singular nouns to make them plural.
- Examples:
- cat → cats
- dog → dogs
- book → books
Regular Plurals with -es
- When to Use -es: Add -es to nouns that end in -s, -x, -z, -sh, or -ch to form the plural.
- Examples:
- bus → buses
- box → boxes
- buzz → buzzes
- dish → dishes
- church → churches
Regular Plurals with -ies
- When to Use -ies: Change the -y to -ies when a noun ends in a consonant + -y.
- Examples:
- city → cities
- party → parties
- baby → babies
- Note: If the noun ends in a vowel + -y, just add -s.
- boy → boys
