A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or animal.

Examples:

  • A common noun is a general name for a person, place, thing, or animal.
  • It does not start with a capital letter unless it’s at the beginning of a sentence.

  • A proper noun is the specific name of a person, place, thing, or animal.
  • It always begins with a capital letter.

Examples:

  • Common = general (no big letters unless starting a sentence)
  • Proper = particular (always a capital letter!)
