Form the singular or plural possessive
Key Notes:-
✨ Form the Singular or Plural Possessive ✨
What is a Possessive Noun? |
A possessive noun shows ownership – it tells us who owns something.
Example:
- 🐱 The cat’s toy → The toy belongs to the cat.
Singular Possessive 📝 |
If one person or thing owns something, we add ’s at the end.
Formula:
Singular Noun + ’s = Singular Possessive
Examples:
- 🧒 Raju’s book → The book belongs to Raju
- 🐶 Dog’s bone → The bone belongs to the dog
- 🏠 Mom’s bag → The bag belongs to Mom
💡 Tip: Always put the apostrophe before the s for one owner.
Plural Possessive 📝 |
- If more than one person or thing owns something, we usually add s’ (apostrophe after the s).
Formula:Plural Noun + ’ = Plural Possessive
Examples:
- 🐱🐱 Cats’ toys → The toys belong to the cats
- 🏫 Teachers’ pencils → The pencils belong to the teachers
- 🐦 Birds’ nests → The nests belong to the birds
💡 Tip: If the plural noun does not end with s, just add ’s like singular.
- Example: Children’s books
