Use spelling patterns to sort long and short vowel words

🏛️Vowels can be short or long. A long vowel says its name. A short vowel does not.

🏛️When a vowel is followed by just consonants, it usually does not say its name. It makes a short vowel sound instead.

🏛️When a vowel is followed by a consonant and a silent e, the vowel says its name. It makes a long vowel sound.

🏛️When a vowel is followed by another vowel, the two vowels sometimes
make a vowel digraph.

The first vowel in a vowel digraph says its name. It
makes a long vowel sound. The other vowel is silent. Some vowel digraphs are
ai, ee, ea, ie, oa and ue.
