Add three or more numbers up to three digits each
Key notes
Key Points:
- Addition means combining numbers to find the total (sum).
- We can add 3 or more numbers at a time.
- Numbers can be 1-digit, 2-digit, or 3-digit.
- Always start adding from the ones place, then tens place, then hundreds place.
- If the sum in one place is more than 9, carry over to the next place.
✏️ Steps to Add:
- Write the numbers one below the other (align digits in ones, tens, and hundreds columns).
- Start with the ones column → add all digits.
- If the sum is 10 or more, carry the extra digit to the tens column.
- Add the tens column → don’t forget to add the carry.
- Add the hundreds column → again, include any carry if present.
- Write the final answer (sum).
✅ Examples:
- Example 1:
- Add 124 + 132 + 143
124
+ 132
+ 143
------
399
- So, 124 + 132 + 143 = 399
- Example 2 (with carry):
- Add 256 + 178 + 235
256
+ 178
+ 235
------
669
- So, 256 + 178 + 235 = 669
