Use a place-value chart!

Remember that each group of three digits is called a period.

A place-value chart with the millions, thousands, and ones periods labeled. Each period has three labeled columns: hundreds, tens, and ones. A comma is shown between the millions and thousands periods. A comma is shown between the thousands and ones periods.

For the digits in the thousands period or higher, use the rules you used for numbers 100-999 and then add the name of the period.
